“This recipe is from my grandma, Fannie Reavis, and is the best pound cake I’ve ever eaten. The original handwritten copy calls for lard instead of shortening. My grandparents were married in 1933 and Papaw bought Grandma a new stove for their home—a 1933 Hotpoint—the only stove she ever cooked on. We still have the stove and it still works! For Christmas I passed on this family recipe with my nine-year-old daughter, Aimee, as we made cakes for teachers and friends. We had a great time. I love to make this cake as it always brings back fond memories of my grandparents who have now both passed away,” shares Angela Messer of Lewisville.
